The Pope reaches shocking and incorrect conclusion?
In a landmark statement Pope Francis embraced science and stated that “The Big Bang and evolution ARE real but they were carried out by God”.
However, he went on to conclude that “the account in the book of Genesis is an allegory for the way God created the world.” The Catholic Church no longer teaches creationism – the belief that God created the world in six days.
Genesis is the word of God and must be correct. Scientific enquiry, leading to peer-reviewed results relating to the development of the universe and appearance of life on earth, must also be correct.
One can show that Science and Genesis are compatible in detail, right down to scientific accuracy on the key events relating to the development of the universe and appearance of life on earth – what happened and when. However, the same analysis shows that precisely the three events for which science has no satisfactory answer correspond to Genesis ex nihilo creation events – the rest of the events described in Genesis are about making something from something else, in a cause and effect fashion, under natural laws – for which we find satisfactory scientific descriptions and explanations.
